Why a leader must hate leadership?

Leadership is the act of influencing people. Society has high regards of leaders because they made thing possible. They lead and they are being followed. Their opinions are heard and being listened. Their perspective is valued and their presence is being treasured. Leaders are being made. They die, but their deeds will not be forgotten. But right now, I want to reflect on the question, "why lead?"



Why lead?

The thing in leadership is this. Many people wants to lead but do not know the "why" of leadership? Why lead? is it because of influence? Power? Fame? A sense of self gratification? I believe that the why of leadership is responsibility. I agree with the Greek philosopher Plato when he said that a leader must hate his position. But the reading while he takes on leadership is because of his conviction that he is the best man to do the job. He wants direction. He sees problems and he has a plan in mind on how to solve it. Leadership is not a position. We must see things first before we lead so that we can be able to reflect about it and make things done.

Leaders have a vision

If there is no vision, there is no leadership because leadership is about leading a group of people towards a specific direction. What makes leadership special? It is because it unifies people. It unifies different individuals into a legitimate human group whose efforts complements and compliments towards the accomplishment of a specific goal. Leaders have vision. It transforms into a mission.

Leaders wants something to be done

Leaders see something and they want to do it. They want to accomplish something. A leader wants to accomplish something but there are many things that he/she can't do alone. That is why a group of people is needed. A group of people who believes in what the leader wants to accomplish.

For aspiring leaders

Have a goal, share it. Do it. There is something in this world that you want to do differently. Innovate do not listen to orthodoxies aim for change cause it for the better. Leaders hate leadership because is a responsibility. It requires effort it requires pain, sacrifice and bloodshed. If you want to lead be as hard as a stone because criticisms will never be out in the attendance sheet. Be as moldable as clay because ideas are everywhere and the knowledge about reality will never be absolute. Our subjectivity has flaws. We must hate leadership because it will change us. We must hate leadership because it is a necessity.
